In my fifth semester at Filmakademie I started to develop a 3D sidescroller game together with two of my classmates. We worked together on the animated short "BENU" before & really enjoyed working as a team.
Beside developing the idea and the story together with my colleagues, I was mainly responsible for the gameplay and character programming, as well as the whole scene setup and dressing in the engine. But as we were only three people working on the game most of the time, we´re working at all kinds of tasks at the same time.
I also really enjoyed building an Unreal tool we called "Color Volumes", which lets us change the color of every asset in the game as well as the whole lighting based on the characters position inside those volumes. This was a huge timesaver in the process of coloring the game and getting the final look, which was done exclusively using those color volumes.
